Malaysia’s Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing produced one of the standout results of the All England Open after defeating world No. 4 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in the men’s doubles competition.
Competing at the Utilita Arena Birmingham, the Malaysian pair, currently ranked No. 33 in the world, delivered an impressive performance to defeat the reigning Asian Games champions 23-21, 21-12.
Despite facing one of the top pairs in the sport, Aaron and Khai Xing showed strong composure throughout the match. They managed to disrupt the powerful attacking style of the Indian duo and maintained control during key moments, especially in the opening game where they held their nerve to secure the narrow win.
The Malaysians grew in confidence after claiming the first game and carried that momentum into the second, where they dominated the rallies and limited opportunities for Rankireddy and Shetty to mount a comeback.
For Khai Xing, the victory was particularly meaningful as it came during their first appearance at the prestigious All England tournament. The young pair approached the match with determination and played with freedom against higher-ranked opponents.
Aaron Tai revealed that encouragement from senior teammates Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik played an important role before the match. The experienced pair advised them to stay relaxed and focus on playing their natural game without worrying about the pressure of facing a top-ranked opponent.
The guidance helped the pair approach the contest with confidence, allowing them to execute their strategy effectively against one of the world’s strongest doubles partnerships.
The result is a significant moment for Malaysian badminton as it highlights the growing depth within the country’s men’s doubles squad. Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing’s performance not only strengthens their reputation as an emerging pair but also signals their potential to challenge established teams on the international stage.
Their victory at the All England could mark the beginning of a promising chapter for the young duo as they continue to develop on the BWF World Tour.
