KUALA LUMPUR: Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik kept local hopes of winning a title at the Malaysia Open alive after storming into the men's doubles semi-finals at Axiata Arena on Friday.
The world No. 2 defeated Indonesia's world No. 8 Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 21-19, 21-10 to put the smile back on thousands of fans at the stands following the elimination of other Malaysian shuttlers earlier.
The win carried extra significance as it served as sweet revenge for Aaron-Wooi Yik, who had lost to the same Indonesians in the SEA Games final in Bangkok last month.
Their progress into the last four ensured the host nation's title ambitions remain intact, following the quarter-final exits of Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and mixed doubles world champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei earlier in the day.
