KUALA LUMPUR: National back-up mixed doubles pair Datu Anif Isaac–Clarissa San secured their first senior crown at the Bangladesh International Challenge (IC) in Dhaka today.
World No. 335 Anif–Clarissa defeated Bangladesh world No. 272 Jumar Al Amin–Urmi Akter 27-25, 21-14 in a 50-minute final.
The duo started combining with each other only last month, and the Bangladesh IC was their third tournament as a pair.
It is interesting to note that mixed doubles world champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei's first international title as a pair was also the Bangladesh IC in 2022, and Anif-Clarissa can look up to their illustrious seniors and progress further in their careers.
The title should also help them break into the top 200 in next week's BWF world rankings.
Meanwhile, women's doubles world No. 141 Gan Ming Yee-Tan Zhing Hui also reached their first international final but lost to 91st-ranked Thai duo Phattharin Aiamvareesrisakul–Sarisa Janpeng 7-21, 22-20, 21-15 in 62 minutes.
Both pairs will have the opportunity to compete in the Bangladesh International Series, which will be staged at the same venue starting on Monday.
