Aprilia becomes the final manufacturer to debut its 2027 prototype, gaining early track time at Jerez as teams prepare for sweeping technical changes.

Aprilia has officially entered the race for MotoGP’s future after debuting its 2027 prototype at the Jerez MotoGP Test. The Italian manufacturer is the last of the five factories to roll out its next generation machine, marking a key milestone as the championship prepares for major regulation changes.

The prototype’s first outing came earlier than planned. With wet conditions disrupting Moto2 and Moto3 running, Aprilia took advantage of the situation and sent its 850cc bike onto the track. The team had already been testing at Jerez, allowing them to gather early data despite the challenging weather. This decision reflects a clear intent to maximize development time ahead of the 2027 season.

The test also builds on a strong period for the Noale-based squad. Recent performances at the Spanish Grand Prix and the in-season test showed encouraging pace, including a standout showing from Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura, who topped the timesheets. Under the leadership of technical director Fabiano Sterlacchini, Aprilia continues to make steady progress both in performance and innovation.

Initial footage released by the team suggests the prototype ran smoothly, indicating that much of the early development work had already been completed behind closed doors. According to Sterlacchini, the focus has been on ensuring reliability before increasing track activity, a strategy that appears to have paid off during its first public outing.

The 2027 season will introduce significant technical changes across MotoGP. Engine capacity will be reduced from 1000cc to 850cc, aerodynamic elements will be simplified, and ride height devices will be removed. Electronics will also be scaled back, while fuel regulations will shift towards more sustainable blends. In addition, Pirelli will replace Michelin as the sole tyre supplier.

Aprilia plans to continue testing at Jerez in the coming weeks, balancing development of its current machine with ongoing work on the 2027 project. Rival manufacturers including Ducati and Yamaha are also advancing their own prototypes, setting the stage for an intense development battle as MotoGP moves closer to a new era.
