The queen of power tennis, Aryna Sabalenka, has reached a historic milestone, completing her 80th career week as the WTA World No. 1. This achievement places her among the sport’s all-time elite and signals a strong season ahead. Sabalenka is now the 11th player in WTA history to reach 80 weeks at the top, joining legends such as Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova, and Serena Williams. She is also the sixth woman of the 21st century to hold this level of consistency, alongside Martina Hingis, Justine Henin, Ashleigh Barty, and Iga Swiatek.
Despite not playing since the Australian Open, Sabalenka’s lead over world No. 2 Iga Swiatek has grown from 3,012 points to 3,087 points. This buffer secures her top ranking for Indian Wells, where she defends 650 points, while the Miami Open, where she holds 1,000 points, could bring a tighter contest.
The women’s tour also saw new faces making headlines. In Merida, Cristina Bucsa captured her first WTA title, soaring from No. 63 to a career-high No. 31. Runner-up Magdalena Frech climbed to No. 36 from No. 57. In Austin, Americans Peyton Stearns and Taylor Townsend impressed with Stearns winning her second WTA title to reach No. 48, while Townsend re-entered the Top 100 at No. 87. Andorra’s Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva made her Top 100 debut, moving up to No. 97 after a strong run as a qualifier in Merida.
On the men’s side, the ATP Tour saw exciting rises as well. Italy’s Flavio Cobolli captured the ATP 500 title in Acapulco, debuting in the Top 15 at No. 15. Czech star Jakub Mensik climbed to No. 12 after consistent results in Doha and Dubai, approaching the Top 10. Meanwhile, American Patrick Kypson recorded a major upset by defeating world No. 6 Alex de Minaur in Acapulco, entering the Top 100 at No. 95.
The WTA and ATP Tours are displaying a blend of established dominance and emerging talent, promising an exciting year for tennis fans worldwide.
