Parris Todd, the No. 5-ranked Women’s Singles player in the world, was fined USD $50,000 and suspend

Todd was among the four PPA Tour pros who took part in the PJF-organised event at Tokyo’s Ariake Tennis Park, with the others being James Ignatowich, Ryan Fu, and Vivian Glozman. Based on reported accounts, the event was a series of clinics and exhibitions that the PJF held to grow pickleball in Japan.

While Todd was fined and suspended, Ignatowich, Fu, and Glozman were banned outright, with the UPA terminating their contracts, stating that “participating in competitor events is a black-and-white violation of UPA agreements.” In the statement announcing the termination of the three players’ contracts, the UPA noted that it was still reviewing Todd’s case, but stated that she “participated in this event after initially reaching out for permission to do so, with incomplete context.”

It appears that the review has favoured Todd, who will take a financial hit and will be out for a couple of tournaments but will remain under the UPA umbrella. Ignatowich, Fu, and Glozman, on the other hand, are now free agents, though they have appealed their termination.

“‘”Nothing in our contracts prohibited this activity. We did not compete in another league, promote a rival tour, or receive compensation of any kind,” the three stated in their official appeal, echoing Fu’s previous claims immediately after the termination.

Jeff Watson, VP of Communications and Marketing for the UPA, confirmed to The Dink that the UPA has received the appeal and “will take the appropriate next steps to evaluate.” The appeal was formally received on 22 December 2025.
