Emma Raducanu is set to reconnect with former coach Mark Petchey for the upcoming Indian Wells Masters 1000 tournament in California. The British No 1 made the decision after parting ways with Francisco Roig earlier this year following a disappointing Australian Open campaign.
Petchey, a trusted figure in Raducanu’s career who previously coached her in both 2020 and parts of 2025, will assist on a short‑term basis rather than taking on a full‑time role. The arrangement comes as Raducanu prepares to compete without a permanent coach, a situation she has faced several times during her professional career.
Raducanu’s season so far has been inconsistent. She suffered a second‑round loss at the Australian Open and has had mixed results in subsequent events. While she recently reached the final of the Transylvania Open, fitness setbacks and tactical struggles have hindered her momentum.
Despite previously stating she was not actively searching for a coach, Raducanu values Petchey’s deep understanding of her game and personal rapport with her. Their earlier collaborations brought positive results, including a strong run at the Miami Open last year and solid showings on grass.

The Indian Wells tournament represents a key moment in Raducanu’s year, offering a chance to regroup before the next stop on the WTA Tour. Alongside Petchey on court, she will also continue working with her hitting partner Alexis Canter, who has been part of her support team in recent events.
Raducanu also recently announced a new partnership as a global brand ambassador with Uniqlo ahead of Indian Wells, adding an off‑court dimension to a pivotal phase in her season.
The temporary reunion with Petchey shows Raducanu’s ongoing effort to blend familiarity and technical support as she aims for greater consistency on the tour in 2026.
