The country’s first-ever official pickleball championship, the Gatorade Malaysia Closed 2025 saw top-level competitors battle it out not just for medals, but also for official national ranking points. The tournament, therefore, marked a major step towards establishing pickleball as a recognised competitive sport in Malaysia.
Even better, the competition saw not just established players join the action. Malaysia’s emerging talents and junior athletes also competed, and together they delivered some fast-paced action, world-class play, and exciting matches. What’s more, the overall quality of play in the Gatorade Malaysia Closed 2025 reflected unequivocally Malaysia’s rapidly growing pickleball community.
In all, Gatorade Malaysia Closed 2025 featured multiple categories across all age groups, from Under-12 and Under-15 juniors to adult divisions. This diversity meant the tournament brought together both Malaysia’s emerging and established pickleball talent. Among the notable names who competed were former national hockey player Keevan Raj and ex-SUKMA tennis star Izran Farroukh, who both competed at the highest level.
Gatorade Malaysia Closed 2025 was organised by the Malaysia Pickleball Association (MPA) in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Pickleball Association (KLPA), with all matches officiated under national standards.
“We’re delighted to have Gatorade supporting the inaugural Malaysia Closed 2025,” said Delima Ibrahim, the Competition Chairwoman of the MPA. “Their involvement helps grow the sport at all levels, especially from the grassroots and junior levels, who are discovering pickleball as a hobby, to competitive athletes refining their skills. It’s encouraging to see corporate partners like them who share our vision of building an inclusive and sustainable pickleball community.”
Grassroots development, perhaps not coincidentally, is one of the core goals of global brand Gatorade. Trusted by elite athletes and the sports drink of choice for players, Gatorade focuses on grassroots development and supports young talent by helping them discover their potential. This made Gatorade a perfect partner in organising this high-level tournament.
