Coco Gauff is known for her maturity and thoughtful perspective both on and off the court, and the world No. 3 once again displayed that balance during her media appearances at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open.
Fresh from a quarterfinal showing at the Australian Open, Gauff revealed that she has recently been spending her free time reading classic literature. Her latest choice was Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, a novel she said left a strong impression.
Gauff offered a candid assessment of the book, challenging its reputation as a great romance.
“It’s not really a great love story,” she said. “There’s a lot of toxicity and abuse in it.”
She added that she was curious to see how future film adaptations would present the story, given its complex themes. Despite finding parts of the novel challenging, Gauff said the experience has motivated her to continue reading more demanding material.

Alongside her literary interests, Gauff also spoke about following major pop culture events while on tour. With the Super Bowl approaching, she said she was most interested in watching the halftime show, particularly the performance by Bad Bunny, and joked that she might not stay awake for the full game.
Turning her attention back to tennis, Gauff said she is focused on improving her results in the Middle East swing after early exits in the region last season. In Doha, she is competing in both singles and doubles, where she is partnering Victoria Mboko.
The third seed is scheduled to open her singles campaign against either Elisabetta Cocciaretto or Elsa Jacquemot. With strong form carried over from Melbourne, Gauff will be aiming to convert her preparation into a deeper run at the season’s first WTA 1000 event.
