PETALING JAYA: It was raining rewards for newly-crowned mixed doubles world champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, who took home a whopping RM460,000 in incentives for their historic triumph.

The pair were the toast of a celebratory ceremony hosted by Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), headed by president Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Thursday (Oct 9), which also honoured the coaching and support team behind Malaysia’s successful world championships campaign in August.

Tang Jie and Ee Wei emerged as the biggest winners of the day, pocketing RM300,000 from the BAM, RM100,000 from Yonex, and RM60,000 from Affin Bank.

Their coach Nova Widianto also received RM15,000, while six members of the mixed doubles support team shared RM18,000.

Women’s doubles runners-up Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah were also rewarded for their fine run, receiving a total of RM192,500, comprising RM112,500 from BAM, RM50,000 from Yonex, and RM30,000 from Affin Bank.

“It’s an honour for us to receive such strong support from Tengku Zafrul, BAM and our sponsors. We’re truly grateful that they’ve always stood behind us," said Ee Wei.

"Our success isn’t just for ourselves, but also for BAM, our sponsors, coaches and the entire support team," said Ee Wei.
