Helios Pickleball Developer Envisions Grand Facility, Hints at Possible Expansion If Successful – Pickleball News Asia
The under-construction Helios Pickleball Centre in the Philippines is set to become the first tourna
“You’ll find facilities there that are thematic, very social in nature; there’s a lounge,” Mallari told GMA Lifestyle. “You wouldn’t think of it as a court. When you walk in, you’d think you’re in a hotel or a resort or an indoor garden, and then you’d see a court. Something like that. They’re more for recreational play, not for big competitive, professional tournaments. And that gap is what we at Helios are trying to fill in.”
Mallari also envisions Helios Pickleball Centre as something of an all-in-one fitness facility, where members can work out in the in-house gym and play pickleball if they want.
“We want it to be a no-brainer complex for fitness. If you’re a member of a gym and you’re paying around ₱4–5K per month, here it’s almost the same. You have a gym already in Helios and still have the opportunity to play [pickleball]. You have a gym membership and you have playing rights.”
But aside from being a hub for fitness and recreation, the Helios Pickleball Centre, according to Mallari, will also be a facility for professionals and top-level tournaments.
“The challenge is, there will be a centre court on the top floor,” Mallari added. “So, there’s a lot of investing and planning going on. We want everyone to experience where the professionals play.”
And, indeed, the plan is to have the pros playing at Helios Pickleball Centre. This is set to happen soon after KAVC and UPA Asia signed a Memorandum of Understanding that would bring multiple PPA Tour Asia tournaments to the facility upon its completion in 2027.
It is no wonder, then, that KAVC is pulling out all the stops and pouring in the resources—over a billion is being invested, according to Mallari—towards building the Helios Pickleball Centre. And if the facility proves to be a smash hit, Mallari hinted that a second similar complex could be built, either in Cebu or Pampanga.
