KUALA LUMPUR: National coach Herry IP admitted he was far from satisfied with what he achieved in his first year in charge and has identified three major targets for his men's doubles pairs next season — the World Championships, Asian Games and All England.

The Indonesian coaching legend, nicknamed the "Magician" and "Fire Dragon", joined the BA of Malaysia (BAM) in February and enjoyed early success with world No. 2 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, who captured three titles — the Badminton Asia Championships, Thailand Open and Singapore Open.

World No. 4 Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun also delivered silverware by winning the Malaysia Masters.

However, Herry was left disappointed after his men's doubles pairs failed to deliver at the Paris World Championships and the All England. None of his charges advanced to the quarter-finals at either tournament.

Next year's All England will be held in Birmingham from March 3-8, followed by the World Championships in New Delhi from Aug 17-23, and the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games from Sept 19-Oct 4.

"There are three major priorities," said Herry.

"The World Championships are one of my main targets because we did not get the results we wanted this year. My focus is on the World Championships, the Asian Games and also the All England.

"Overall, I think we are still on track, but there have been failures as well.

"We did not achieve the desired results at the World Championships, and that was one of our setbacks. We must continue to learn and evaluate where we fell short."

During his 25-year tenure as the Indonesian men's doubles coach, Herry produced five world champions, eight All England winners and guided three of the last four Asian Games men's doubles gold medallists.

"Of course, I hope the Malaysian players can win gold at the Asian Games. That is something we really want," he added.

Herry has also delivered success with back-up pair Wan Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King, who won the Macau Open (Super 300), while former world junior champions Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing claimed the Malaysia Super 100, Syed Modi International (Super 300) and Guwahati Masters (Super 100).

Despite the encouraging progress, the Magician insists the three major events will remain his top priorities next year.
