PPA Tour Asia standouts Hien Truong, Hoang Nam Ly, and Jimmy Liong swept the podium at the Pro Men’s Singles 5.0 and Above category of PPA Australia’s Melbourne Pickleball Cup.
Truong led the way, winning gold against Ly in an all-Vietnam final that the former won handily, 2-0 (11-9, 11-3). Truong also beat some of Asia’s other big names on his way to the gold medal match. Notably, he overcame Liong, Malaysia’s no. 1 men’s player, in the semis, 2-1 (3-11, 11-8, 11-7), and Hong Kong’s Jack Wong Hong-kit, the PPA Tour Asia’s top-ranked male player, in the quarterfinals, 2-1 (8-11, 11-8, 11-6).
Liong, on the other hand, bucked his heartbreaking loss to Truong in the semis and fought his way through the back draw, where he met Macau’s Marco Leung. The Malaysian pro bagged the bronze by beating Leung, 2-0 (11-5, 11-7) to complete the Asian sweep of the category.
Truong is currently tied with compatriot Trinh Giang at no. 4 in the PPA Tour Asia rankings at men’s singles. He has had two podium finishes—silver at the MB Vietnam Cup 2025 and bronze at the MB Vietnam Open 2025. Ly is at no. 3, having medalled in four of the six PPA Tour Asia events held thus far (bronze in the MB Vietnam Cup, Panas Malaysia Cup, and Hong Kong Open).
