KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Open mixed doubles title once again proved elusive for the hosts after world champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei crashed out in the quarter-finals at Axiata Arena on Friday.
The fourth seeds were beaten 21-17, 17-21, 21-10 by Hong Kong's seventh seeds and Asian champions Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet, in a high-quality clash that lived up to its billing between reigning world and Asian champions.
The defeat meant Tang Jie-Ee Wei failed to emulate their semi-final run last year and also extinguished Malaysia's hopes of ending a mixed doubles title drought that has now stretched to 60 years, since Teh Kew San-Ng Mei Ling last lifted the trophy in 1965.
