Spaniard stuns with a running tweener lob in Monte-Carlo

If any single point captures the essence of Carlos Alcaraz, it is the breathtaking moment at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters that earned him Hot Shot of the Year.

Voted by fans on ATPTour.com as the most thrilling of the season, Alcaraz’s winning point narrowly beat out spectacular shots from Grigor Dimitrov and Hubert Hurkacz, who also wowed audiences with incredible from-the-floor winners. Alcaraz, however, stood out with his instinctive play and creativity.

In a showcase of his trademark speed, power, and flair, the Spaniard sprinted to chase down a drop shot, angled a sharp return, and then executed a running tweener lob in just the second game against Daniel Altmaier. After the point, Alcaraz playfully put his finger to his ear, inviting the Monte-Carlo crowd to join the excitement early in the third-round match.

Alcaraz went on to lift the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters title, his first in the Principality and one of eight trophies he won in 2025. He concluded the season as ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF, finishing with a 71-9 match record according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.

The 22-year-old was a familiar face at this year’s ATP Awards, receiving the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for the second time, while his coaches, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Samuel Lopez, were honoured as Coach of the Year.
