The highly anticipated Kinabalu Pickleball League is set to begin this Saturday, January 24, at the Pickle Collective in Sutera Avenue, with 20 teams competing in the inaugural event. Matches will follow the dream breaker format, where the first team to reach 21 points claims victory in a single continuous game.
The league will span eight match days, held on the last day of each month. Each match day features a prize pool of RM1,500 for the winners, RM1,000 for runners-up, RM500 for third place, and a RM500 voucher for the most valuable player. At the end of the season in August, the overall champion team will receive RM5,000, with additional cash prizes awarded to the top five teams.

Speaking at the official launch on Sunday, organising chairman Mohd Noh Adzlie expressed his excitement at the response, noting that organisers had initially expected only 16 teams. “To attract 20 teams is a huge success for us. Each team consists of six players, bringing a total of 120 participants to the opening match day,” he said.
Noh also highlighted the league’s broader goals as a community-driven initiative to promote and develop pickleball across Sabah. “Our main objective is to grow the sport locally and create a sustainable league ecosystem,” he explained. Julita Akabal, protem president of the Sabah Pickleball Association, was also present at the ceremony to lend her support to the initiative.
