Indonesia heads to Horsens with a powerful mix of experience and youth, setting up a strong challenge against defending champions China at the Thomas Cup.

Indonesia has made its intentions clear ahead of the upcoming Thomas Cup in Horsens, Denmark. Rather than simply competing, the badminton powerhouse is aiming to reclaim the title with a well-rounded squad built for both consistency and impact.

The tournament, scheduled from April 24 to May 3, will see Indonesia field a lineup that blends proven performers with emerging talent. This balance could be key in a format where depth often determines success.

In singles, the team is anchored by world No. 4 Jonatan Christie, whose composure and reliability in high-pressure matches make him a crucial figure. Alongside him is Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, an Olympic bronze medallist known for his speed and attacking style.

Much of the intrigue surrounds rising star Alwi Farhan. The 21-year-old has already captured titles such as the Macau Open and Indonesia Masters, and his aggressive play gives Indonesia a genuine edge in the second singles slot. Additional depth comes from Zaki Ubaidillah.

Indonesia’s strongest advantage, however, lies in doubles. The pairing of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri leads a department widely regarded as one of the best in the competition. They are supported by the experienced duo of Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, as well as promising young pairs who add further depth and flexibility to the lineup.

Standing in their way is defending champion China, spearheaded by world No. 1 Shi Yuqi and backed by strong doubles combinations. China remains the benchmark, but Indonesia’s strength across all departments gives them a realistic chance of an upset.

There is also a sense of familiarity working in Indonesia’s favor. Their last Thomas Cup triumph came in Denmark in 2020, and a return to the same country could provide a psychological boost as they look to repeat that success.

With a deep squad and momentum on their side, Indonesia arrives in Horsens as one of the most serious contenders for the title.
