After an impressive run to the All England Open semifinals, Indonesia’s young men’s doubles duo Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin are gaining confidence and attention ahead of the Thomas Cup Finals, showing they can challenge top opponents on badminton’s biggest stages.

Indonesia’s young men’s doubles combination Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin are drawing attention as they prepare for the Thomas Cup Finals in Horsens, Denmark, set for April 24 to May 3. Their breakthrough performance at the recent All England Open suggests they could be key contributors for the Indonesian team.

In Birmingham, the 21‑year‑old Raymond and 20‑year‑old Nikolaus delivered a standout showing in their first appearance at the prestigious tournament. They pushed world champions and top seeds Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea in the semifinals before falling 19‑21, 13‑21.

Their run to the last four was notable for several reasons. Earlier in the tournament, they earned a hard‑fought quarterfinal victory that highlighted their growing potential on the world stage.

Indonesia’s head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi has taken note of their rapid development since forming a partnership in 2024. He believes the young duo’s performance in Birmingham, especially against top‑ranked opponents, demonstrates they are ready to take on greater challenges.

The semifinal experience has provided Raymond and Nikolaus with valuable lessons about competing at the highest level. They said facing the world’s best helped them better understand the intensity and consistency required at major events, boosting their confidence ahead of future tournaments.

Last year, the pair already showed promise by winning two titles on the BWF World Tour, including the Indonesian Masters and Australian Open. These successes, combined with their recent deep run, have marked them as one of Indonesia’s most exciting emerging duos.

As Indonesia finalises its Thomas Cup squad ahead of the April deadline, Raymond and Nikolaus appear poised to play an important role, potentially strengthening the team’s doubles options and contributing to the nation’s push for team honours.
