Joan Mir has spoken candidly about his difficult spell with Honda in MotoGP, highlighting crashes, lack of competitiveness and the mental challenge of racing at the back of the grid as he looks toward the future.

Joan Mir has opened up about the difficult realities of his time with Honda in MotoGP, admitting that the team’s struggles have made consistency and confidence hard to maintain.

The 2020 MotoGP world champion has endured several challenging seasons since joining Honda, with the RC213V package struggling to match the performance of rival manufacturers. The lack of competitiveness has often left Mir fighting outside the leading positions and dealing with frequent crashes.

Mir explained that in such conditions, it becomes difficult to consistently push at 100 percent, as the combination of limited performance and repeated incidents affects both results and mindset. He acknowledged that mistakes and setbacks can build up across a season when results do not come easily.

Despite the challenges, Mir remains committed to improving and extracting the most from the package available. Honda has also continued working on technical updates in an effort to close the gap to the front-running teams, but progress has been gradual.

Since joining Honda after Suzuki’s exit from MotoGP, Mir has faced a steep adaptation period, with results falling short of his title-winning form. The struggles have also coincided with a wider competitive dip for the manufacturer against European rivals.

Even so, Mir continues to approach each weekend with a focus on progress rather than immediate results, as he and Honda work to rebuild competitiveness in the long term.
