Lee Zii Jia begins his Orleans Masters campaign from the qualifiers as he looks to rebuild form, gain match fitness, and strengthen his case for the upcoming Thomas Cup.

Malaysian shuttler Lee Zii Jia faces another important test in his comeback journey as he begins his campaign at the Orleans Masters from the qualifying rounds. After a period disrupted by injuries, the tournament presents a valuable opportunity for him to rebuild form and regain consistency ahead of a busy international calendar.

Zii Jia showed signs of progress at the Swiss Open, where he secured two qualifying wins before exiting in the first round against Jason Teh. While the results hinted at improvement, they also highlighted the gap he must close to return to his best level.

Former international Ong Ewe Hock believes the focus should now be on gaining match rhythm. He noted that Zii Jia needs more competitive games to shake off rust and rebuild confidence, while also testing his physical condition following previous back and ankle issues.

The challenge in Orleans is far from straightforward. Zii Jia opens his qualifying campaign against India’s S. Sankar Muthusamy, with a potential clash against Mithun Manjunath awaiting if he progresses. A place in the main draw could see him face Finland’s Joakim Oldorff, adding further difficulty to his path.

Beyond the immediate results, the tournament carries added importance as Zii Jia looks to strengthen his case for selection to the upcoming Thomas Cup in Denmark. With the prestigious team event approaching, his performances in Orleans will play a key role in determining his readiness to lead Malaysia on the big stage.

Malaysia also has other representatives competing in France. Eogene Ewe begins his qualifying run against Chen Zhu Xuan, while Justin Hoh faces Chi Yu Jen in the main draw. In women’s singles, Wong Ling Ching takes on Zhang Beiwen, and K. Letshanaa awaits her opponent from the qualifiers.

For Zii Jia, however, the spotlight remains firmly on his return to form. Each match in Orleans is not just about results, but about rebuilding confidence, regaining sharpness, and proving he is ready to compete at the highest level once again.
