What we know after Thursday’s games 📝

  • Boston climbs to 2nd in Eastern Confernce: A come-from-behind road win got even sweeter as the evening played out for the Boston Celtics after the New York Knicks also lost to the Warriors. With that Boston leapfrogs New York in the Eastern Conference standings, behind only the Detroit Pistons. Anfernee Simons earned the nickname ‘Anferno’ after catching fire for a season-high 39 points to lead a 19-point comeback win.

  • Rockets 4th quarter offense runs dry: After an overtime classic on opening night,  tonight’s matchup between the Rockets and Thunder was highly anticipated. Through three rugged quarters it was anybody’s game, but it swung heavily in the fourth. A two-point lead after three quarters turned into a 20-point OKC victory as the Thunder mustered just 16 points in the final frame. Some credit is owed to the stingy Thunder defense, but the Rockets will have to figure out a winning formula down the stretch to contend with the league’s top teams.

  • Orlando Magic trending upward: This was the first of two games overseas between the Magic and Grizzlies, as Orlando’s stars helped carry the team to victory in Berlin. Anthony Black stamped his current breakout with an unreal poster dunk, adding to the momentum of this Orlando group with a healthy Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner in the lineup. Desmond Bane was added in the offseason to be the missing piece for this team in the postseason, and if this group continues to gel they could be extremely formidable when that time of year returns.

1:09 AM / January 16, 2026

Hornets take down Lakers with barrage of threes ☔️

LaMelo Ball was in rare form in Los Angeles, and there was nothing the Lakers defenders were able to do about it. The team didn’t need him to score in the first half and still led after two quarters, but in the second half Ball erupted for 27 points as Charlotte made easy work of the Lakers.

12:52 AM / January 16, 2026

Jimmy Buckets leads the way 🪣

This is the Jimmy Butler that Golden State believes can help them go toe-to-toe with any team in the league. He picked his spots well against the Knicks and ensured that there wasn’t a comeback inside Chase Center.

12:45 AM / January 16, 2026

No Deni, no problem

Portland cranked up the defense in the fourth quarter to shut the door on the Atlanta Hawks. The Trail Blazers outscored the Hawkks 29-15 in the final frame after entering the quarter down by two. Shaedon Sharpe was the leading scorer with 26 points, with Portland also getting good efforts from Donovan Clingan, Jerami Grant and Caleb Love.

12:21 AM / January 16, 2026

It never gets old 🥹

Stephen Curry has been doing this for well over a decade, but he never ceases to amaze. He’s up to 24 points as his club looks to close out the Knicks in the second leg of an NBA on Prime double-header.

12:13 AM / January 16, 2026

LaMelo snatch-back 3️⃣🤧

This combination from LaMelo Ball was downright dirty, as he took advantage of DeAndre Ayton switching onto him and drained a three.

12:02 AM / January 16, 2026

Lakers playing from behind

The Hornets came out of the halftime break firing from deep. Three Charlotte makes from long distance and a technical foul for Luka Dončić helped dig a double-digit hole for the Lakers early in the third.

11:41 PM / January 15, 2026

‘Dyson’ up the defense

Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels is one of the league’s premier defensive players, but he’s showing how he can also be an effective scorer. As a 6’7″ ball handler, he can often finish over defenders inside and he’s doing so early in the third quarter to lift his team ahead of Portland.

11:36 PM / January 15, 2026

Hornets take lead into half over Lakers

Miles Bridges is a perfect 6-6 tonight from the field, including this alley-oop that rattled the arena. He also climbed up to fourth all-time in franchise points for the Hornets who lead the Lakers 64-55 at the break.

11:20 PM / January 15, 2026

Two down, two to go

There are a pair of good games developing out west. The Golden State Warriors are pulling out the trick shots to jockey with the visiting Knicks. Karl-Anthony Towns is all over the boards, and his team will need the extra production with Jalen Brunson sidelined tonight. The Warriors lead 62-59 at halftime.

The Trail Blazers and Hawks are locked into a tight contest as well. Don’t miss a moment as the second half gets underway now on NBA League Pass.

11:10 PM . January 15, 2026

Luka has 19 already 😳

A high-scoring first quarter overall featured 19 early points from Luka Dončić. The Lakers star is on pace for a huge night, as the Charlotte Hornets eye a road upset.

11:00 PM / January 15, 2026

Looking really Sharpe ✨

Shaedon Sharpe is up to 16 points tonight, and is the only player in double figures as the Trail Blazers host the Hawks. Here’s some of his best first quarter buckets.

10:54 PM / January 15, 2026

Late games underway

The Knicks are reeling from a current Warriors run and their early lead has vanished.

10:14 PM / January 15, 2026

OKC runs away from Rockets

This one was neck-and-neck through three quarters, but a hot start to the fourth quarter from Oklahoma City was too much for Houston to overcome. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the game’s leading scorer with 20 points, extending his 20-plus point streak in the process.

10:10 PM / January 15, 2025

C’s comeback complete 🏁

The Boston Celtics showed championship resolve tonight against a tough Miami Heat group. After playing behind for almost the entirety of the first three quarters, Boston delivered in the fourth. Anfernee Simons is largely responsible for the victory after scoring a season-high 39 points. Boston outscored Miami 36-21 in the fourth quarter to win this one on the road.

10:02 PM / January 15, 2026

Dominant Spurs 3Q 😤

Highlights were aplenty for San Antonio in the third quarter of tonight’s game versus the Milwaukee Bucks. Victor Wembanyama was a force, sinking shots from long range throwing alley-oop passes.

Stephon Castle is in on the fun as well, as he danced around Giannis Antetokounmpo for a hard-earned bucket. With a 30-plus point lead, expect some of the guys at the bottom of the rotation to get some run in the fourth quarter.

9:57 PM / January 15, 2026

Pistons hold off Suns

The Pistons fought hard to escape with the win tonight over the Phoenix Suns. Even without Devin Booker in the lineup, Phoenix hung with Detroit for all four quarters before coming up short.

Jalen Duren had a monstrous double-double, ending the game with 16 points and 18 rebounds in his first game in roughly two weeks. Cade Cunningham had 10 points and 11 assists on 3-16 shooting, overcoming a bad night shooting to still get the victory.

9:39 PM / January 15, 2026

Simons leading Celtics 4Q rally 👀

Anfernee Simons is up to a season-high 32 points tonight, as the Celtics are trying to complete a comeback against the Miami Heat. Simons is responsible for Boston’s last 11 points. The final five minutes are playing out on NBA League Pass.

9:36 PM / January 15, 2026

Spurs open up big lead in 3Q

San Antonio carried a 13-point lead into halftime, and that has quickly grown to 22 points in the third quarter. Victor Wembanyama is showing no adverse effects of exiting the game briefly in the first quarter, as he brought the crowd to its feet with a sequence proving how special of a talent he is.

9:30 PM / January 15, 2026

Suns-Pistons final stretch ⏳

This has been a back-and-forth affair all night long, and with three minutes remaining it’s anybody’s game. The Pistons lead 102-100, and are hoping to get the win in front of their home crowd.

Tune in to see the final moments play out on NBA League Pass.

9:25 PM / January 15, 2026

Backwards lay???

This kind of shot-making can’t be taught. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander worked through pest defense from Amen Thompson to sink this spinning lay up with his back to the basket. His team leads by just two points entering the fourh quarter against the Houston Rockets.

9:17 PM / January 15, 2026

Climbing the ranks 🎯

Klay Thompson is one of the very best shooters of all-time, and that’s not up for debate. Tonight, he passed Damian Lillard for the fourth most made three-pointers in NBA history. The only players ahead of him are Stephen Curry, James Harden and Ray Allen.

9:12 PM / January 15, 2026

Collier 👉 Bailey 💥

The Utah Jazz are down after one quarter against the Dallas Mavericks, but look out for Ace Bailey. The lottery pick rose for an emphatic alley-oop off a slick feed from Isaiah Collier.

9:10 PM / January 15, 2026

Pistons-Suns battling

The Suns are without Devin Booker, but the team is still intent on competing against the Eastern Conference’s top team. Detroit managed to cut into their halftime deficit, but still trail as the fourth quarter is moments away.

8:55 PM / January 15, 2026

Norm deep in his bag 💼

There’s no chill in this highlight dunk from Norman Powell. He’s one of four Heat players already in double figures scoring as the second half in Miami gets underway now.

Wemby returns to game 🙌

Spurs fans were likely on edge after seeing their superstar hobble to the locker room, but concerns are at ease for now. Victor Wembanyama returned to the game in the second quarter after bumping knees with Giannia Antetokounmpo in the first.

8:45 PM / January 15, 2026

Thunder ahead at half

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t sink his first shot until the second quarter, but he started heating up as the first half came to a close. The MVP is up to 10 points, while Chet Holmgren leads all scorers with 16.

Meanwhile, Amen Thompson continues his scoring surge. He’s averaging 23.1 points per game in January, and leads the Rockets with 12 so far tonight.

8:33 PM / January 15, 2026

Wemby limps off court

Victor Wembanyama appeared to be on the wrong end of bumping knees with the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Spurs big man exited the game after this first quarter collision, as his team hopes to stay afloat in his absence.

8:28 PM / January 15, 2026

Getting chippy in Detroit

Dillon Brooks has been assessed a technical foul, Isaiah Stewart has a flagrant foul, and we still have another half to play between the Suns and Pistons. Grayson Allen has been the star of the night thus far, ending the half with 21 points to keep his team ahead.

8:20 PM / January 15, 2026

C’s supporting cast ☘️

The Celtics are trailing the Miami Heat midway through the second quarter, but the reserves are keeping them in the game. Anfernee Simons has a team-high 11 points so far, including three makes from downtown.

Jordan Walsh has also been productive early, collecting seven boards so far and finishing this second-chance opportunity with authority.

8:15 PM / January 15, 2026

Slugfest so far

It should come as no surprise that two of the league’s top defensive and rebounding teams are in a low-scoring battle tonight.

7:57 PM / January 15, 2026

Over the DPOM 😤

Isaiah Stewart was honored before the game for earning defensive player of the month honors, but that did not deter Suns center Oso Ighadoro from trying him at the rim.

7:40 PM / January 15, 2026

It’s time 🍿🏀

Grab a seat, this one should be good right out of the gates. Which Western Conference contender will emerge victorious tonight between the Rockets and Thunder? The two team’s last matchup was an opening night classic that ended in overtime.

Suns lead 32-23 after 1Q

After a slow start out of the gate, Phoenix flipped the momentum midway through the first quarter and carry a nine-point lead into the second. It’s been a rough shooting night so far for Cade Cunningham, connecting on just 1-of-7 tries in the opening frame.

7:35 PM / January 15, 2026

Family First 👏

While the trip overseas may have been new for many on the Grizzlies and Magic rosters, it was a homecoming for some. Moritz and Franz Wagner both represent the German National Team in FIBA, and had family in attendance for today’s game in Berlin.

7:28 PM / January 15, 2026

Anthony Black vs. the World 😳, Magic top Grizz in Berlin

The day’s action began hours ago overseas with the Orlando Magic facing off with the Memphis Grizzlies. That’s where Anthony Black created one of the season’s best posters, slamming home a one-handed dunk with four defenders in his way.

The Magic were victorious over Memphis, 118-111. Paolo Banchero ended the game with a very balanced box score, while Franz Wagner ended one rebound shy of a double-double himself.

7:25 PM / January 15, 2026

Full steam ahead 🚊

Jalen Duren continues to expand his game. The rebounding machine has flashed a better shooting touch and improved ball-handling this season, evidenced by this play where he leads the break and finishes through the contact.

7:19 PM / January 15, 2026

No Booker for PHX ➡️ more Gillespie 🤔

Devin Booker is sidelined for tonight’s game in Detroit for the Suns. Expect Collin Gillespie to be tasked with picking up the slack at the point guard position. He’s been a sniper from long-range this season and is having undoubtedly his best season as a pro.

Paolo Banchero led the way with 26 points, while Anthony Black had 21 and Franz Wagner added 18. Tristan Da Silva and Moe Wagner, both German, had 8 and 7 respectively.
