Luca Van Assche boosted his bid to return to the ATP Top 100 after winning his fifth career ATP Challenger title at the Open Quimper Bretagne Occidentale in France. The 21‑year‑old Frenchman overcame Swiss alternate Remy Bertola 3‑6, 6‑1, 7‑5 in the final at the indoor Challenger 125 event. Van Assche struck nine aces, won 80 percent of his first‑serve points and broke serve three times on his way to victory in a match that lasted just over two hours.
Ranked No. 165, Van Assche had shown resilience throughout the week, including a near three‑hour semifinal win over defending champion Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg. His success in Quimper earns him 125 ranking points and €30,460 in prize money, further strengthening his case to climb back toward the world’s top 100.

Van Assche first attracted attention on the junior circuit, reaching the world No. 1 position and winning the boys’ singles title at Roland Garros in 2021. He made his initial breakthrough into the Top 100 in April 2023 at age 18 after securing three Challenger trophies early in his career.
After his Quimper triumph, Van Assche thanked his new coach Sébastien Villette, with whom he is still early in his partnership. He also acknowledged the support of the crowd and his father, who had travelled from Paris to watch the final.
With his strong performance in Quimper and steady results on the ATP Challenger Tour, Van Assche is positioning himself for a potential return to the Top 100 and further progress on the ATP Tour.
