The Mutua Madrid Open took centre stage in Madrid this week with a unique promotional event held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, where a temporary clay court was installed for a special exhibition involving top tennis and football stars.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and women’s top player Iga Świątek were among the tennis stars who took part, alongside retired legend Rafael Nadal. They were joined by Real Madrid footballers Jude Bellingham and Thibaut Courtois in a friendly on-court showcase that blended both sports.
The Bernabéu, home of Real Madrid, was temporarily transformed into a clay court as part of the Madrid Open’s wider promotional activities. The event highlighted the growing crossover between football and tennis in the Spanish capital, with players participating in light rallies, photo sessions and entertainment-driven exchanges rather than competitive play.
Organisers also used the occasion to promote the Madrid Open and its expanded tournament footprint, with the stadium acting as an additional showcase venue alongside the main competition site at Caja Mágica. The setup drew significant attention due to the rare sight of elite football and tennis figures sharing the same court.
While no official matches were played at the Bernabéu, the event reinforced Madrid’s growing reputation for high-profile sporting spectacles, bringing together some of the biggest names in global sport in a single setting.
