“Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and bringing it to our local community reflects our commitment to promoting youth development.”

The Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas), together with the Sibu Pickleball Association (SPA), recently hosted the Saberkas Bukit Assek Pickleball Tournament 2025 at the Methodist Youth Centre. The event is part of their ongoing effort to engage Sarawak’s youth in community-building, health, and fitness activities.

“Saberkas Bukit Assek always places youth engagement, healthy living, and community cohesion at the heart of its mission,” said Joseph Chieng, Branch Manager of Saberkas Bukit Assek and President of the SPA.

Chieng also highlighted that both Saberkas and SPA are dedicated to increasing youth membership and fostering leadership skills, and will continue to offer young Sarawakians diverse growth opportunities, particularly through sports.

Pau Chiong Shii, Organising Chairman of the Saberkas Bukit Assek Pickleball Tournament 2025, noted that the competition, now in its second year, provides an excellent platform for Sarawak’s youth to stay active and enjoy friendly rivalry.

The standout performers of the tournament were the young duo Tiong Khai Hieng and Yong Yu Ying, who captured the championship by defeating Hu Ung Khang and Law Luo Li in the gold-medal match. The pair Pau Chiong Shii and Febi Ngu completed the podium, representing the top performers among 16 competing pairs.

Saberkas Secretary-General Kiing Teck Ho and SPA Vice Chairman Daniel Ling were also in attendance at the Saberkas Bukit Assek Pickleball Tournament 2025.
