World No. 6 Malaysians Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun made a quick start to their Indonesia Masters title defence, winning in just 23 minutes at Istora Senayan.

World No. 6 Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun began their Indonesia Masters title defence in dominant fashion on Tuesday, defeating Taiwan’s Po Li Wei and Chang Ko Chi 21-13, 21-6 in just 23 minutes at Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

The convincing win highlighted the Malaysian pair’s growth, particularly compared to their hard-fought three-game victory over the same opponents at the 2022 Taiwan Open.

In the second round, Wei Chong and Kai Wun will face India’s A. Hariharan and M.R. Arjun, marking the first meeting between the two pairs.

Malaysia will have three men’s doubles pairs in the last 16, with Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, along with Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong, having already advanced.

In women’s doubles, world No. 74 Cheng Su Hui and Tan Zhing Yi also moved on after beating Denmark’s Kathrine Vang-Mette Verge 22-20, 21-13. The pair had earlier battled through qualifying, giving them two wins in a single day.

However, fellow qualifiers Chong Jie Yu and Vanessa Ng were eliminated, falling 21-16, 21-10 to Hong Kong’s Tsang Hiu Yan and Yeung Pui Lam.
