MLS NEXT Pro is gearing up for its most expansive and earliest season yet in 2026, officially unveiling a schedule that kicks off on February 27th. This landmark season will feature 30 clubs, including newcomer Connecticut United FC, playing 420 matches over 30 weeks, with each team competing in 28 games split evenly between home and away fixtures.
The league will continue its play uninterrupted through the 2026 FIFA World Cup, culminating in a highly anticipated Decision Day on September 20th. This commitment ensures a robust and continuous schedule for fans and players alike.
Connecticut United FC marks a significant addition as the league's 30th club and its third independent team, joining Carolina Core FC and Chattanooga FC. The new Eastern Conference Northeast Division entrant, led by former MLS veteran and Jamaican international Shavar Thomas, is slated to play its inaugural home match on April 11th, bringing professional soccer to a new market.
The defending champions, New York Red Bull II, will begin their quest to retain the title against Columbus Crew 2. The opening weekend promises excitement with 15 matches scheduled across the league, setting the stage for a competitive season. For the first time, MLS NEXT Pro will also host a regular season match at MLS NEXT Cup, further strengthening the professional pathway for youth players.
MLS NEXT Pro continues to solidify its role as a crucial development platform, having propelled over 230 players to MLS first-team contracts to date. Infrastructure growth remains a key focus, highlighted by North Texas SC's upcoming debut at Mansfield Stadium and San Jose Earthquakes II's return to their original identity in 2026.
