KUALA LUMPUR: Women's doubles Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah's objective of making the World Tour Finals (WTF) title showdown went up in smoke as Japan's Mayu Matsumoto-Yuki Fukushima delivered another blow in Hangzhou on Saturday.
World No. 2 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah were unable to stop world No. 5 Matsumoto-Fukushima from securing a win 21-19, 21-13 in the semi-final clash.
The top Japanese pair had also beaten Pearly-Thinaah in the group stage, and the latest defeat narrowed the Malaysian pair's head-to-head record to 5-3.
Pearly-Thinaah will be content with the US$60,000 (RM245,000) for their semi-final finish, while Matsumoto-Fukushima will be playing either China's world No. 1 Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning or world No. 7 Baek Ha Na-Lee So Hee of South Korea in the WTF final on Sunday.
