A pillar of the sport, Vivienne David, has announced her retirement from pro pickleball. The PPA Tou

The PPA Tour veteran announced her decision with a heartfelt post on Instagram, where she acknowledged that while her decision is “bittersweet,” she is nonetheless “excited and at peace with it,” as she will continue being involved in the sport anyway. David won numerous medals as a PPA Tour pro, including eight in 2024 alone—six of which came in Mixed Doubles with close friend and partner Thomas Wilson.

“It’s a bittersweet feeling to be announcing this, but I’ve made the decision to retire from playing pickleball professionally,” David began. “At first I wasn’t sure if I was making the correct decision, but as time went on and I’ve given it a lot of thought and prayer, I’m excited and at peace with this decision. I’ll still be in pickleball but more geared towards teaching, which really excites me!”

David then thanked everyone she has met through pickleball and gave special mention to those who have given their “amazing support and love.”

“For sweet friendships I’ve made that will be lifelong friends, the best fans and supporters everywhere across the States (the love and support was so appreciated, words cannot explain), to people opening up their homes and giving me a place to stay while I was on the road. The list goes on and on!! THANK YOU!,” David added. “Thank you to all of my partners that I’ve played with!!! It has truly been such an honour to play alongside each and every one of you. So many amazing memories made with y’all!”

Of course, David gave her longtime mixed doubles partner, Thomas Wilson, a lot of love as well, thanking him for their “many memories.”

“Gotta give my brother @thomaswilson_pb a special shoutout!” David continued. “Tommy, the season that we were able to play and compete together has truly been such a blessing, and I’ll remember those moments forever! Thankful to the Lord for the many memories I was able to make with you and your amazing wife @brittanyannwilson on and off the court. I love y’all so much!”

Vivienne David was not just one of the PPA Tour’s best players. She was also one of its most effervescent personalities, as she was always smiling and personable on and off the court.
