Reds Reclaim Molineux Mastery
This trip to Molineux carried extra weight after Liverpool's previous Premier League defeat. The team responded with determination, securing their spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a dominant display that saw Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, and an own goal seal the 3-1 result.
Defensive Resolve (Mostly)
The backline showed a much-needed composure, largely containing Wolves' attacking threats. Joe Gomez (7/10) delivered an excellent response to his previous unfortunate role, looking composed at centre-back. Alongside him, Virgil van Dijk (7/10) had a more enjoyable evening, easily dealing with the physical challenge before a late rest.
Alisson Becker (6/10) had a relatively quiet night, though one moment of misjudgment nearly cost him. Playing an unfamiliar role at right-back, Dominik Szoboszlai (6/10) performed decently but will be frustrated by his involvement in Hee-Chan's consolation goal. Despite being caught offside for that very goal, Andy Robertson (8/10) was arguably the standout defender, turning back the clock with a barnstorming, trademark display down the left flank.
Midfield Engine Room Ignites
Liverpool's midfield demonstrated dynamism and control. Curtis Jones (8/10) justified his inclusion with a truly dynamic performance, leading the press effectively and capping it off with a classy goal. This is the consistency Liverpool fans crave from the talented youngster. Ryan Gravenberch (6/10) overcame an early foul to impressively control the game, even going close to scoring on a couple of occasions.
A concerning moment arrived when Alexis Mac Allister (6/10) limped off late in the game after a reckless challenge. Hopefully, it's nothing serious, as the Argentine had shown flashes of his best form throughout his time on the pitch.
Attacking Flare and Promise
The forward line, featuring a mix of experience and youth, showed significant promise. Mohamed Salah (7/10) appeared invigorated after his midweek goal, looking much livelier and taking his strike well. While Cody Gakpo (6/10) couldn't be faulted for his effort, his end product remains an area for improvement.
Making his mark, Rio Ngumoha (7/10) was an absolute livewire during his time on the field. The teenager's dribbling skills made him a constant threat, and he registered Liverpool's only real meaningful effort on goal in the first half, hinting at a bright future.
Slot's Tactical Acumen Rewarded
Manager Arne Slot (6/10) deserves credit for his lineup choices. His decision to finally start Rio Ngumoha, coupled with recalling Andy Robertson, proved to be masterstrokes. The impact of substitutes like Florian Wirtz (6/10) and Jeremie Frimpong (6/10) gaining valuable minutes was also significant. With Salah finding the net again and Wirtz returning to action, Slot will undoubtedly feel more confident heading into next week's crucial trip to Istanbul. The Reds are back on track in the FA Cup, and the morale boost could be exactly what they need for the challenges ahead.
