Singapore is set to get 50 new badminton and pickleball courts by 2031, making it easier for residents to enjoy these fast-growing sports. The new facilities, spread across the island, include dedicated and dual-use courts, with measures in place to address noise concerns and improve accessibility in heartland communities.

Government to Expand Community Sports Facilities

Singapore plans to roll out about 50 new multipurpose courts for badminton and pickleball over the next five years to give more residents access to these popular sports, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo announced during the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth’s 2026 budget debate in Parliament. This move is part of broader efforts by Sport Singapore (SportSG) to make active lifestyles more accessible in the community.

Already Open or Soon to Open

Included in this total are:

  • Eight dual‑use pickleball courts that have already started operating at The Kallang.
  • Another eight dedicated pickleball courts will soon open at the Little India Bus Terminal.

These new facilities will be spread across the island, giving people more options beyond existing courts.

Managing Space & Noise Concerns

Mr Neo acknowledged that locating courts near housing estates can raise noise issues. To address this, SportSG plans to engage local communities and put in place measures such as using softer balls — as tried in Mountbatten SMC — and situating courts smartly so they’re accessible but less likely to disturb neighbours.

Boosting Heartland Sports Access

In addition to the new courts, updates on existing facilities were shared. Renovations at four local sports venues, including Delta Sport Centre and ActiveSG Sport Park @ Teck Ghee, have wrapped up, while upgrades at Hougang and Queenstown regional sport centres and the new Punggol Regional Sports Centre are expected to finish within the next year.
