Jannik Sinner continued his remarkable form at the Mutua Madrid Open, extending his Masters 1000 winning streak to 24 matches with a commanding straight-sets victory over Elmer Moller.
The Italian eased through their third-round encounter 6-2, 6-3, maintaining his dominance on the tour and further strengthening his position as one of the sport’s leading players. The result places Sinner in elite company, as only Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have achieved a 24-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level since the format began in 1990.
Sinner’s run stretches across multiple tournaments, including titles in Paris last season and Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo this year. His consistency has been particularly striking, winning 48 of the 50 sets played during this streak.
Only Tomas Machac and Benjamin Bonzi have managed to take a set off him, both forcing tie-breaks before ultimately falling short.
Against Moller, Sinner controlled the match from the outset. He secured an early double break in the opening set and quickly regained momentum after a brief lapse, before sealing the contest with another key break in the second.
“Yeah, slightly better, obviously a different opponent,” Sinner said after the match. “I tried to stay calm and serve well in important moments, and I think that was the key. There was not a lot of rhythm so I tried to stay quite compact, and let’s see what’s coming in the next round.”
Up next, Sinner will face Cameron Norrie in the fourth round, marking their first meeting on the professional tour. Norrie advanced after defeating Thiago Agustin Tirante in straight sets, setting up a fresh test for the in-form world number one.
