Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga was left out of the lineup for Sunday’s 123–91 rout of the Chicago Bulls, raising questions about his future with the team.

Kuminga, 23, who recently signed a two-year, $46.8 million extension, becomes trade-eligible on January 15. According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, the Warriors are “expected to explore the Kuminga trade market in the weeks ahead, with a split before the February deadline looking increasingly likely.”

The young forward had a strong start to the season, averaging 17.5 points on 55.4 percent shooting —including 45 percent from three — in the Warriors’ first six games. “I’m not really sure [how long it lasts],” Kuminga said Sunday. “But as long as things are working out there and we’re winning, I don’t see the point of switching anything. Whenever my number gets called, I’ll be ready.”

However, sitting out in a 32-point victory sends a clear message. Kuminga’s trade value has stagnated since last summer, and the Warriors may have less leverage now than during previous trade discussions.

General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. will aim to secure meaningful returns for a young player with potential, but at some point, Golden State may have to accept whatever offers come their way. Analysts suggest that a clean break could benefit both parties, as additional time is unlikely to resolve underlying issues that predate this season.
