KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 10 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai pushed China's world No. 1 Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping to the limit before bowing out in the quarter-finals of the India Open on Friday.
Soon Huat-Shevon fought back strongly but eventually fell 21-19, 19-21, 21-18 as Yan Zhe-Dong Ping maintained their perfect head-to-head record and extended it to 5-0.
The Chinese pair also stretched their winning streak to 23 matches, a run dating back to September last year, with their last defeat coming at the hands of Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei in the semi-finals of the China Masters.
Despite the loss, Soon Huat-Shevon's performance stood out for its resilience and fighting spirit.
They clawed their way back from 16-9 down in the second game to force a decider and showed the same grit in the third, refusing to back down even after falling behind 9-3.
The defeat meant Soon Huat-Shevon were unable to repeat their semi-final run at the tournament last year
