Duong was all business from the get-go, using his fierce, aggressive shotmaking to fluster Huynh. With the 19-year-old former PPA Tour superstar in his element, the older Huynh just could not get into a rhythm as he quickly fell behind. Duong continued to assert his mastery over Huynh even after a dominant first-set win, leaving his opponent virtually no opening to mount even a comeback.
Quang Duong, who is currently a free agent and is now competing in the Indian Pickleball League, booked his Finals seat with a 2-0 dismantling of international heavyweight Vuk Velickovic. Leaning on his unprecedented power, skilful technique, and superior court control, Duong took Velickovic’s best shot in the first set and still came away with an 11-8 victory. He then turned it up in the second set, blanking Velickovic with a masterful showing.
Phuc Huynh, who is No. 2 in the PPA Tour Asia rankings in Men’s Singles and is also now competing in the Indian Pickleball League, met Truong Vinh Hien in the semis for an all-Vietnam showdown. Huynh fended off Hien, 2-1, but was tested as he lost the second set to his inspired countryman. The eventual silver medallist, however, regained his composure in the third set to seal what had been a highly anticipated duel with Quang Duong.
