KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 3 Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei suffered a shock first-round exit at the India Open today, losing in straight games to China's Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi.

The Malaysians fell 21-16, 21-19 to the world No. 16 pair at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi.

The defeat marks a disappointing start for Tang Jie and Ee Wei, who reached the semi-finals of the Super 750 tournament last year and were looking to build momentum following a quarter-final exit at last week's Malaysia Open.
