Malaysian badminton rising star Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan is embracing a demanding path as she continues to develop in both women’s and mixed doubles, following her eye-catching performances at the Uber Cup in Denmark.
The 18-year-old, who partners Low Zi Yu in women’s doubles, has quickly emerged as one of Malaysia’s most promising young talents after helping deliver a standout win against Japan during the team competition. Their upset victory over a higher-ranked pair highlighted their potential to compete at international level, even against more experienced opponents.
Now training at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM), Noraqilah is also working on expanding her game by competing in mixed doubles alongside her women’s doubles commitments. The dual focus is seen as part of her long-term development plan to gain more exposure, improve versatility, and build match experience across different formats.
Despite growing attention, she remains grounded about her progress. Noraqilah has acknowledged that she is still in the early stages of her career and is focused on steady improvement rather than rapid breakthroughs. Coaches have also supported her gradual approach, emphasising the importance of adapting physically and mentally to increased match load.
The balancing act is not without challenges, as competing in two disciplines requires greater stamina, sharper tactical awareness, and careful workload management. However, it also offers valuable court time, which is crucial for a young player transitioning into senior-level competition.
For Noraqilah, the immediate goal remains clear: continue improving step by step while gaining consistency at international events. With early signs of promise already visible, Malaysia’s young shuttler is positioning herself as a player to watch in both categories as her career develops.
