Tyler Fairman, a beloved player for Woodthorpe Park Rangers FC, was enjoying an end-of-season celebration with his teammates when the unimaginable occurred. In the early hours of Saturday, May 9, a red Vauxhall Astra reportedly mounted the pavement in the Market Place, Arnold, striking a group of five individuals, including Fairman.
The promising young athlete suffered severe injuries in the incident. Despite the relentless efforts of medical staff, he was tragically pronounced dead on Tuesday evening, May 12. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the local community and football fraternity.
Family's Heartbreak and Community's Embrace
Tyler Fairman leaves behind his devoted partner, Laraya, with whom he shared eight years. The couple has a beautiful young son, and Laraya is in the final stages of her pregnancy, expecting a baby girl very soon. This devastating loss has left his family heartbroken.
In response to this immense tragedy, a fundraising appeal was swiftly launched to support Laraya and her children. The outpouring of generosity has been incredible, with the appeal already raising over £11,000. The funds aim to alleviate financial pressure on Laraya, who works as an NHS healthcare worker and runs her own beauty business, allowing her to focus on healing and her babies during this incredibly difficult time.
Justice Sought: Murder Investigation Underway
Initially, Duane Anthony, 40, from Marton Road, Bulwell, was charged with five counts of attempted murder along with other driving offences in connection with the incident. However, following Tyler Fairman's death, Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that a full murder investigation has been launched.
Anthony appeared before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Monday, May 11, where he was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear next at Nottingham Crown Court on June 8 as the legal process continues to unfold. The four other individuals involved in the incident sustained minor injuries and are recovering.
