Vave Singapore has officially made its entry into Penang, celebrating the milestone by hosting the world’s first pickleball “Playcation”—an innovative tournament concept that brings together competitive play, travel experiences, family involvement, and community connection.
World’s First Pickleball “Playcation” Makes Its Debut in Penang
Organised by Singapore-based Sports League, the Vave Singapore Playcation took place on 30 and 31 January 2026 at D’Plazza Mall, Jalan Mahsuri, Bayan Baru. The event featured 13 regional teams and was held in conjunction with “Visit Malaysia 2026,” the national tourism initiative aimed at attracting international visitors by highlighting Malaysia’s cultural diversity, sustainability efforts, and family-friendly travel appeal.
More than just a sporting event, the pickleball Playcation is designed as a fully curated family sports getaway. Created specifically for amateur athletes, the experience combines competitive matches with leisure and cultural discovery, offering participants local sightseeing tours around Penang, hotel stays, local transportation, access to all matches, and exclusive event giveaways.
“This Playcation approach is designed to appeal to families, amateur athletes, and sports enthusiasts seeking an engaging and memorable travel experience in Penang while enjoying the excitement of competitive pickleball,” said Vave Singapore’s Benny Gan.
Vave App Aims to Elevate Amateur Sports Through Travel, Technology, and Community
The event also signalled Vave’s official launch in Penang. Vave is a mobile application and tournament management platform built to support regional competitions, family-focused sports travel, and community-based sporting events across Asia. The platform enables users to register for tournaments, track match results, view rankings, and maintain match histories through a single integrated system. Its broader mission is to elevate amateur sports experiences while keeping them inclusive, accessible, and community-oriented.
“The Vave app is designed to serve regional tournaments, multiple sports, and family-friendly competitions by managing regional matches across different sports, tracking results, and providing a seamless experience for players and families alike,” said Varad Kumaravelu, Founder of Vave. “It’s built to make amateur sports more accessible, connected, and fun, no matter the sport.”
Beyond tournaments, the Vave platform also supports Playcations—sports-led travel experiences that merge competition with family-friendly tourism in destinations such as Penang, Bali, Goa, and Europe. Vave was developed by Sports League, a company founded in 2020 with the vision of making competitive sports more inclusive, engaging, and accessible to communities everywhere.
