KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will have just two pairs left standing in Saturday's semi-finals of the India Open after Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun bowed out of the men's doubles on Friday.
World No. 6 Wei Chong-Kai Wun put up a spirited fight but were edged out 21-15, 15-21, 21-19 by China's world No. 5 Wang Chang-Liang Wei Keng.
The loss extended Wei Chong-Kai Wun's winless run against the Paris Olympics silver medallists to six matches.
Malaysia's challenge in the Super 750 tournament now rests solely on Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, the world No. 2 pairs in men's and women's doubles respectively.
Aaron-Wooi Yik will attempt to defend the title won last year by Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, while Pearly-Thinaah are bidding to create history by becoming the first Malaysian women's pair to capture the India Open crown.
