“Thank you for turning childhood dreams into reality," Alcaraz wrote as he announced the end of his seven-year partnership with his coach, former world No. 1 player Ferrero.

Carlos Alcaraz has announced the end of his coaching relationship with Juan Carlos Ferrero. The split concludes a seven-year partnership with the fellow Spaniard and former world No. 1, who guided Alcaraz to his first six Grand Slam titles.

Alcaraz began training with Ferrero in 2018 at age 15 at Ferrero’s academy in Alicante. The partnership proved transformative: Alcaraz became the youngest world No. 1 in ATP history in 2022, finished the season as No. 1 for the second time, and together they won 24 tour-level titles, six Grand Slam crowns, a Paris 2024 Olympic silver medal, and spent 50 weeks atop the ATP rankings.

The timing of the split, made public on 17 December, follows Alcaraz’s highly successful season, which included eight titles, a 71–9 win-loss record, his 250th career victory, and major wins at the French Open and US Open. Just days prior, on 11 December, Ferrero and Samuel López were named ATP Coaches of the Year.

Alcaraz shared the news in a heartfelt post in Spanish on social media:
“It is very difficult for me to write this post... After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and player. We reached the top, and I feel that if our sporting paths had to diverge, it should be from up there. From the place we always worked towards and always aspired to reach.”

He added:
“Thank you for turning childhood dreams into reality. We started this journey when I was barely a kid, and throughout all this time you have accompanied me on an incredible journey, on and off the court. I have truly enjoyed every step with you.”

Ferrero, in his own statement, described the partnership as “a very important chapter” that he closes with “nostalgia and pride,” thanking Alcaraz for his trust and effort, and wishing him continued success both professionally and personally.
