Federico Staksrud, the world’s top-ranked pickleball player on the men’s side, is taking his talents to China for the Hangzhou Open 2025.

Staksrud will be bringing in heavy star power to the PPA Tour’s inaugural season, and he will be coming with lots of momentum after his spectacular showing at the Jenius Bank Pickleball World Championships that took place early this month. The 29-year-old Argentinian proved why he’s No. 1 in the world today, bagging the Men’s Singles gold and then teaming up with Hayden Patriquin to cop the championship in the Men’s Doubles.

That latter gold is particularly noteworthy because Staksrud and Patriquin beat the seemingly unbeatable duo of Ben Johns and Gabe Tardio in a thrilling semifinal showdown that showcased pickleball at the highest level. Johns, of course, is very familiar to Asian fans as he came over to Southeast Asia and showed out at the Panas Malaysia Cup, and then at the MB Vietnam Cup.

Johns, widely regarded as the pickleball GOAT on the men’s side, won gold in Mixed Doubles with Anna Bright, and silver in Men’s Doubles with Christian Alshon in Malaysia. He also bagged bronze in Men’s Doubles in Vietnam with Deker Bar.

Now, Staksrud will look to replicate that success as he brings A-level star power to the PPA Tour Asia’s final showcase this season. It is also the first time the PPA will land in China, marking another milestone for one of the world’s premier pickleball organisations.

The Hangzhou Open 2025 will take place on 3–6 December 2025, and will offer USD $50,000 in prize money, along with PPA Tour Asia ranking points.
