Alex Marquez says remaining with Gresini Racing is his most secure option, but he is also open to taking a risk and pursuing a factory team seat for 2027. The Spaniard has emerged as one of the most sought‑after riders on the MotoGP grid after finishing runner‑up in the 2025 championship, his best result in the premier class.
Marquez is reportedly close to finalising a contract with the KTM factory team for 2027, where he would join Maverick Vinales, who is moving up from the Tech3 squad. The deal is understood to be near completion pending formal signatures.
Speaking at the Sepang test ahead of the 2026 season, Marquez said every rider aims to be part of a factory team, but he is happy at Gresini and wants to focus on the current pre‑season. His strong 2025 campaign included three victories and 12 podium finishes, allowing him to finish second in the championship behind his brother Marc Marquez.
The success last year also improved Marquez’s standing within the Ducati structure, earning him a factory‑spec Desmosedici for the 2026 season at Gresini. Despite that, he acknowledged that the introduction of new technical regulations in 2027 could change the competitive landscape, and this may be a moment to consider a bold move.
Marquez also predicted that more than half of the MotoGP grid will have their 2027 contracts settled before the season begins, as teams and manufacturers look to secure riders early.
