A stunning victory at the All England Open has revived the Malaysian men’s doubles pairing of Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing, easing doubts from coach Herry IP after a challenging start to the season.

Just weeks ago, the future of Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing appeared uncertain. National men’s doubles coach Herry Iman Pierngadi had been considering splitting the pair after a series of disappointing results early in the season.

The duo had shown promise late last year by winning titles at the Syed Modi International and the Guwahati Masters in November. However, their momentum faded at the start of the new campaign with early exits at the India Open and the Thailand Masters, raising concerns about their progress.

That outlook changed dramatically at the All England Open, one of badminton’s most prestigious events. Tai and Khai Xing produced one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by defeating India’s Asian Games champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the world No. 4 pair, in straight games. The victory not only boosted their confidence but also addressed the doubts surrounding their partnership.

Their strong form continued at the Swiss Open, where the Malaysians maintained a high level of performance against experienced opponents. They defeated Indonesia’s Rian Ardianto and Rahmat Hidayat, as well as Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana, before their run ended in the quarterfinals against Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard.

The recent results have convinced Herry that the pair still has strong potential if they can maintain their level of play. He noted that competing successfully against top ranked opponents shows they are capable of performing at the highest level.

The focus now shifts to consistency as Tai and Khai Xing aim to climb further in the world rankings. Their next test will come at the Orléans Masters in France, where they will look to build on the momentum gained from their recent performances.
