Malaysia’s top men’s singles player Leong Jun Hao has brushed aside criticism about his recent performances, insisting that he remains focused on improving his game and proving his doubters wrong through results on the court.
The 25 year old acknowledged that expectations come with the role of leading the national men’s singles squad. However, he said outside opinions will not distract him from his main objective, which is to keep developing as a player and become more consistent against both top ranked opponents and lower ranked challengers.
Jun Hao believes his current challenge is to become a more complete player. According to him, beating elite competitors requires more than just strength in one or two aspects of the game. He said improving his overall ability, including versatility and consistency, will be crucial if he wants to deliver stronger results on the international stage.
The Malaysian shuttler has shown flashes of promise during the season but has struggled to maintain momentum in major tournaments. Earlier this month at the All England Open, he produced a notable upset by defeating Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in the opening round before his campaign ended in the second round against Koki Watanabe.
Despite the mixed results, Jun Hao remains confident that his progress will eventually show in his performances. Rather than responding directly to critics, he prefers to focus on training and refining his game until he can consistently compete at the highest level.
For now, the Malaysian hopes patience and continued hard work will allow him to silence doubts and establish himself as a reliable presence in the country’s men’s singles lineup.
