Ducati has brought its first visible aerodynamic upgrade of the 2026 season to the Sepang Shakedown test, with test rider Michele Pirro putting a newly developed fairing on track in Malaysia on Thursday.
Photographs from the session show that the Italian manufacturer has worked extensively on the front section of the Desmosedici, enlarging the front wings and reshaping the upper cowl to produce a more squared and tapered profile. Observers also note that the airbox opening has been redesigned, continuing Ducati’s recent trend toward a more horizontal intake layout.
From the limited vantage point available in pit lane, changes to the lower deflector and side wing elements also appear to be part of the new design, although a full assessment of the sidepods was not possible.
The shakedown test itself, which features factory test riders and selected newcomers rather than full-time MotoGP competitors, is a precursor to the official preseason tests. Teams use this early running to gather data and try developmental parts ahead of the upcoming official sessions.
As reigning premier class champions, Ducati’s technical updates will draw close attention from rivals and fans alike. With winter testing now under way, the new components on Pirro’s bike offer an early look at how Ducati hopes to refine its package for the 2026 season and beyond.
