The BWF World Junior Championships 2026 will now be held in Cairo, Egypt, after Indonesia withdrew as original host, marking a major shift in the global badminton calendar.

Egypt has officially been confirmed as the new host of the BWF World Junior Championships 2026, following a late change in venue after Indonesia relinquished hosting rights earlier this year.

The tournament will take place in Cairo, with competition scheduled from 5 to 18 October 2026. The team event, known as the Suhandinata Cup, is expected to run in the opening week before the individual events conclude the championships.

The decision was made after Indonesia, which was originally awarded hosting rights, withdrew due to internal considerations, prompting the Badminton World Federation to reopen the bidding process. Egypt was later selected as the replacement host.

The event will be staged at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex, marking a significant milestone for Egypt and African badminton. It is also seen as a boost for the region’s growing role in hosting major international sporting events.

This will be the first time Egypt hosts the World Junior Championships, continuing a trend of expanding global representation in badminton’s development events. The change also highlights the flexibility of the BWF calendar, which has seen adjustments in recent months to accommodate hosting challenges and withdrawals.

With the new venue confirmed, preparations now shift to finalising schedules and logistics for one of the sport’s most important junior tournaments, which showcases the next generation of international badminton talent.
