Fabio Quartararo has delivered a candid assessment of Yamaha Motor Company’s current situation, admitting the team is struggling to find answers to its ongoing performance issues in MotoGP.
Following a difficult weekend at the Circuit of the Americas, where Yamaha riders were unable to challenge for meaningful positions, the former world champion expressed concern over the lack of progress.
“The team doesn’t really have any idea how to improve all the issues we’re having with the bike,” Quartararo said, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the M1’s development.
The race in Austin underlined Yamaha’s struggles. While other manufacturers continued to make gains, Yamaha fell further behind, with its riders finishing well off the pace. The gap to the front has grown significantly compared to previous seasons, suggesting that recent upgrades have not delivered the expected results.

Over the winter, Yamaha introduced major changes, including a revised engine concept, in an effort to close the gap to its rivals. However, early signs indicate that the overhaul has yet to translate into improved race performance.
Quartararo’s own race reflected these difficulties. Despite being the leading Yamaha in qualifying, he was unable to maintain a competitive position and later dropped out of the points after experiencing tyre issues.
“I don’t think there’s really anything to take away from a race like this,” he admitted, reflecting on a weekend that offered few positives.
Looking ahead, the upcoming European rounds, including Jerez and Le Mans, are expected to provide further insight into Yamaha’s situation. However, Quartararo remains cautious about the chances of a quick turnaround.
While the team continues to search for solutions, the current trajectory points to a challenging period ahead, with the French rider left to manage both performance limitations and the growing gap to the front.
