Fermin Aldeguer will miss the 2026 MotoGP pre-season tests due to a fractured femur, but his physiotherapist says the Gresini rider could still be ready for the season opener in Thailand. Recovery will be challenging, but comparisons to Pedro Acosta’s similar injury offer cautious optimism.

Gresini MotoGP rider Fermin Aldeguer will miss the upcoming pre-season tests in Malaysia and Thailand after fracturing his femur in a training accident earlier this month. The injury required surgery, and no official recovery timeline has been announced.

Despite the setback, Aldeguer’s long-time physiotherapist, Aitor Tomas, has not ruled out the possibility of the 2025 top rookie taking part in the season-opening Grand Prix in Thailand from 27 February to 1 March. Tomas, who has worked with riders including Aleix Espargaro, Dani Pedrosa, and Pedro Acosta, confirmed that Aldeguer will be unable to ride during the pre-season.

“It's impossible for him to be ready for the pre-season, but we will fight to have him at the first MotoGP race,” Tomas told Catalan media outlet L’Esportu. He added that his role is to support Aldeguer’s rehabilitation and help him regain confidence day by day.

Femur fractures are known for long recovery periods, and Tomas described Aldeguer’s injury as “complex.” He noted, however, that Pedro Acosta experienced a similar injury in his Moto2 career and returned to the bike within 15 days. Tomas cautioned that every recovery is different, and Aldeguer’s situation is more complicated.

Gresini has not announced any contingency plans or potential replacements should Aldeguer’s recovery extend into the start of the season.
