Honda’s MotoGP team manager Alberto Puig has moved to quiet ongoing speculation about Fabio Quartararo joining the factory outfit in 2027, saying the Japanese manufacturer has not yet finalised its rider lineup for the new season.
Reports emerged earlier that Quartararo, the 2021 MotoGP world champion, had agreed a two‑year contract with Honda beginning in 2027. While the French rider said he had held discussions with Honda and other teams, he denied any agreement had been signed.
Speaking ahead of the opening official MotoGP test of the year, Puig emphasised that negotiations across the grid are normal at this time of year and that nothing is decided for Honda’s future roster. “Everyone is talking to everyone,” he told the official MotoGP website. Puig confirmed that while discussions are taking place, the only certainty for Honda is its commitment to support its current riders.
Honda has already secured factory deals for Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira through 2027 at the LCR squad, but its primary factory seats are yet to be named. Riders Joan Mir and Luca Marini, who are both under contract for the 2026 season, face pressure as they compete for future positions within the team. “This year many riders are without contracts,” Puig said. “It is not only them. When you do not have a seat for next season, you have to fight.”
Quartararo’s situation remains one of the hottest topics in this season’s transfer market, with both Yamaha and Honda talks ongoing and his decision expected to shape the grid for 2027. Until formal announcements are made by the rider or manufacturer, however, Honda’s plans remain undefined.
