Jasmine Paolini returns to the Italian capital for the Rome Open carrying both celebration and pressure, as she reaches a major career milestone of 100 consecutive weeks inside the WTA Top 10.
Her rise among the elite has been one of the most consistent stories in women’s tennis. The streak began on 10 June 2024, following her breakthrough run to the Roland Garros final. From there, her momentum continued quickly, reaching another Grand Slam final at Wimbledon just weeks later, which helped push her into the Top 5.
By October 2024, Paolini reached a career-high ranking of World No. 4, a level matched by only a handful of Italian players in history. She currently sits at World No. 8, maintaining her position among the sport’s most consistent performers.
Her 100-week run inside the Top 10 is a historic first for Italian tennis. No other Italian player, male or female, has managed to stay in the elite bracket for such a long uninterrupted stretch. It also highlights her role as one of the most successful Italian players of her generation, alongside past stars such as Francesca Schiavone, Sara Errani, and Flavia Pennetta.
The achievement carries extra significance in Rome, where Paolini won the title last year, ending a long wait for an Italian champion at the event. That victory also came with a large number of ranking points, which now creates added pressure as she returns to defend her crown.
This year, she must defend 1,000 ranking points at the tournament, making her position in the Top 10 less secure compared to several of her closest rivals, who have far fewer points to protect. As a result, a deep run in Rome will be crucial if she is to maintain her ranking momentum heading into the rest of the clay-court season.
While the milestone highlights her consistency and breakthrough into the sport’s elite, the Rome Open now presents a different challenge, as Paolini balances history-making achievement with the demands of defending one of the biggest results of her career on home soil.
